Before I do the next post, I would like you to take a moment to listen to some of the call to prayer. It is broadcast 5 times a day and can be heard everywhere (unless you're inside..... and sometimes even then!). I am not going to go into all the Islamic countries as my visit was in the UAE.
I thought that it was quite beautiful. It's an amazing feeling knowing that so many people are simultaneously worshiping and seeking insight. The prayer being sung is very calming and relaxing. I know very little in terms of the Muslim religion; although I know much more than I did before this trip.
Their prayers remind me of meditation. It is a chance to centre yourself and continue your day being mindful. To remember what is important and that everyone is equal. There is a wonderful feeling of connectedness during Adhan.
"Muslims believe in making a direct connection to Allah through daily worship. Daily prayers incorporate special words and actions which symbolize and express a person's faith. In prayer, Muslims praise Allah, seek guidance and forgiveness, and develop self-discipline." from the About.com Islam page
Gotta run.

That's a really lovely thought - being united five times a day thinking about something great than yourself.
I really enjoyed the call to prayer when I was traveling in Turkey. I know some people find it strange, but I think it's a lovely reminder and break in the day. It really makes thoughtfulness a bigger part of the day.
It is calming - is it that long each time it is broadcasted?
