Woodpecker

As I was kayaking today, I heard noises coming from the woods. They were quite loud. I thought that maybe it was a moose or deer wandering around.

Wasn't either one..... it was a wood pecker (noisy little bugger). I got to watch this woodpecker for about a half an hour. It hopped around pecking and spitting out chunks of bark.

Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me.

I looked up photos on the web and the woodpecker I saw most resembles the black-back variety. It was pretty amazing to see this bird being it's own personal wood mill and drill bit. Bits of bark were flying everywhere..... He/she didn't seem to notice me at all.

It started spitting out so I made a b-line for the shore. Was a wise choice.... not long after I got into the cottage, it poured buckets!!!!

Gotta listen to the rain hit the roof.
